so i took off the old, broken alternator off my 87 1.6TD. stupidly i didn't note which wire went where.
however, two of them have 8mm holes on their ends and so obviously go to the big stud
one has a female spade and can only go to the male spade, marked 'w'
however, there are two others, both blue, both with 5mm holes on their ends. one is paired up with the wire to the 'w' connector and the other comes from the black sleeving along with a big red wire, one of the ones with an 8mm hole. i'm certain one of the blue wires bolted to the smaller stud connector and the other blue wire to a small bolt that holds the alternator together - this must be ground, right? but which blue is which?
also, it's 65amp

Re: alternater wires attachment help please
not too familiar with diesel alts but blue is usually the charge light and has an additional function to help the alt start producing power, often another wire comes off this same conne tion to power a split charge relay.
Usually no earth wire to an alt, the mountings are earth.
An oil burning fan will be along soon.
A diesel has another connecton for rev counter if fitted.

Re: alternater wires attachment help please
I have a 1990 JX TD its fitted with a Bosch 65a alternator; so i nipped out to see whats what with the wiring, as follows 3 cables 2 small 1 large.
The 2 small are 1.0mm cloured blue & red/black the blue cable has a ring crimp fitted ,the red/black has a female spade crimp ,they can only go in their respective terminals. the large red is 10mm fitted with a ring crimp to a stud under a nut . My camper has a rev counter style dash.

The one marked "W" is for a rev counter, if fitted.

thanks for your contributions all.
for anyone who comes by this thread in the future - the two blue wires with 5mm ring connectors go together on the small stud.
