OK, so i took the sump off to clean and check for metal shards. it's lovely inside with just some sooty/sludgy/sedimenty black stuff that i cleaned away. nothing metal dust looking at all, brilliant. i refitted the sump and then refitted the oil filler tube, but one of the two bolts that hold the filler tube to the sump spins without gripping. either someone in the past or maybe me last weekend has overtightened this bolt and stripped the threads in the aluminium sump.
the questions are;
are these tapped holes through into the oil's space, or are they blind holes -should i try tapping them in situ?
is it sump off again and helicoil insert time?
will the sump seal be re-useable if it's just been on a week or two?
has anyone had this problem before?
my gut feeling is sump off again and helicoil insert time, what an ache to the gonads though
any advice and especially pictures if anyone has a sump off currently would be great though. thanks
