I used to plant trees and do general forestry work in Aberdeenshire and the Cairngorms. The favorite mode of transport for the forestry worker up there was the fiat panda 4x4. I have seen these go a very long way off road, at high speed, and when they do get stuck, 3 or 4 of you can lift the car off the stump or other obstruction.
I had a bay window then, with remould tyres, at around 12psi it also would go a long way off road. The T3 however in 2wd is about as hopless a vehicle as you can get on wet grass and slippery stuff. Must be the lack of soft and squishy torsion beam suspension.
As well as the syncro I have a Kangoo Trekka 4x4, this is also a great bit of kit, and managed to get around all parts of the Market Rasen Lincolnshire Landrover Course. But then it does have adaptive 4x4 with viscous coupling, traction control, abs, and discs alround. A bargain at the price.

i've not managed to get mine to hop yet.

but i have driven it into campsites that FWD hatchbacks simply couldn't access. i would like to add that if you think that a T3 is no good on wet grass, then you've never driven a fucd transit

Yes a rear wheel drive dagenham dustbin with no load is very poor, and will hop the back wheels around nicely. There are probably worse 2wds out there. but the T3 is no-where near as good as a T2.

T3 is worst rear engined vw for traction by far, my 2wd gets stuck at the slightest sign of grass.

carry a set of snow chains for the 2wd

and remember not to put 195 tyres on the rears so they dont fit anymore
